ElITE CLASS IX SHOWCASE

Artist Statement
The Chinese philosophy, the Analects of Confucius by Sage Conficious, holds a new meaning with the adage "see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil”. In the realm of Omertá, the audience is the embodiment of our perceived "evil." Their watchful eyes and judgment in an exhibition-like setting influence our reputation, and direct the course of our existence. The act of showcasing ourselves for public scrutiny, where our work is frequently under the microscope of a global audience brings comments and narratives that are false and distorted. We’re placed in a box for the purpose of unwarranted critique from those who misunderstand ELITE’s purpose and mission. The central tenet of Omertá revolves around our creation of a metaphorical bulwark, a protective barrier, where we chose to seal off the main channels of perception – the eyes, ears, and mouths – that regularly serve as a medium for the external judgments and influences that begin to permeate our creations and ourselves. In breaking free from this perceived evil, we seek to liberate ourselves from the shackles of public perception, allowing us to merely be and exist as we truly are.
